Fifa wants to prevent clubs from stockpiling young players and using the loan system for ‘commercial exploitation’.Clubs may only be allowed to loan out six to eight pros from 2020-21 – although clubs are hoping that deals with domestic clubs and those involving young, homegrown players will not be affected by the new rules.
The measure, which was endorsed by the committee, means that clubs will only be allowed to send a maximum of eight players aged 22 or over overseas on loan during the 2020/21 season, with the number being reduced to six for the following 2021/22 campaign.
There will also be a restriction on the amount of loans allowed between two clubs, with a maximum of three loans in a three out permitted between the same clubs.
